Without the benefit of the warmth delivered by the Gulf Stream, dramatic climatic changes will affect the entire planet. For example, Western Europe might plunge into a new ice age.
Mr. Bush, long skeptical of reports on human-driven climate change has refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol for targeted greenhouse gas reductions and did not agree to a 50% reduction of emissions by 2050 proposed by chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany at the G8 summit. He recently skipped the U.N. talks on Global warming and proposed voluntary action by major economies.
