Lady Liberty Swim
Sunday May 27, 2007

On a lazy Sunday morning, with water temperatures in the low 60s, our teammate Cynthia went for an easy 1 mile swim...

Manhattan Island Foundation hopes to revive the swimming tradition from years gone by holding organized swim events all around the New York area. In addition, they work with youth programs that empower kids teaching them to swim. Their website also mentions an added benefit of being able to inform the public about protecting the waters around New York.
So what better place to open the 2007 season than the biggest and to some the most imposing body of water, right at the mouth of the Hudson River! The third annual Lady Liberty Swim started in Battery Park, Gangway One and ended in the North Cove Yacht Harbor, Battery Park City.

Even though reports said the water is cleaner now than in the recent past, we're not sure how clean that really is. But Cynthia jumped right in, along with many others. She later said "There were cruise ships going by and making swells; a seawall that bounced us around; debris (trash, logs, cans...) in the water; and a changing current." But at the end Cynthia completed this little morning swim successfully!

Congratulations Cynthia!
