CRCA Race - 1st and 2nd place!
Saturday July 28, 2007

Huge congrats to Abraham and Gustavo for a 1-2 finish! And a great all 'round win for the team. It's not very often that a 20 year old Cat. 5 wins against a full Cat. 4 field! With a combined Cat. 4 & 5 format, our team had a chance to really work as one.

Many were concerned about the damp road that morning but by the forth lap or so the road had dried. On the sixth and last lap Mitch started a move to the front very early on the East side and stayed in the top 10 around and through the West side.

Mitch said "On the false flat approaching Tavern on the Green the right side was clear and I made my move up to the front of the pack past a long line of greenbeans already positioned. I honestly couldn't see who exactly was there. Just a blur of green in peripheral vision. The yells of 'Hey! Hey! Hey!' behind me were just music to my ears."

"Then I pulled as hard as I could to about the 59th Street exit and peeled off leaving it for the next greenbean to pick up."

Abraham added "I saw Mitch come out of nowhere passing everybody and positioning himself on the front of our train and this was the order: Mitch, then Jim, Jeff, Doug and I."

"Everybody did their part to help as much as they could, but I got to say Jeff, man you are an animal, from where do you get so much power? I almost couldn't keep the pace when you were at the front, I looked at my computer and we were going at 33mph!"

"Then Doug took me to the top of Cat's Paw Hill but it was too soon for me to sprint and I wasn't sure who else was strong to follow them to the sprint."

"But suddenly I heard Gustavo yelling  at me "Abraham, aqui, aqui ,aqui" and he passed me from my left and I stuck on his wheel with 200 meters to the finish line."

"He was cheering me on while we were sprinting "vamos vamos vas a ganar" or "come on you're going to win" and I won! I have to say, I'm very happy and also glad to be part of this team!"

"More than anything thanks so much to TOA for a super race experience. It was great to be there with you guys. But as Mitch said, only because we have a great team with really good guys, it was possible that a racer from the C field could win in a B field. Wow, what a demonstration of organization, power and  control the team showed during the race."

Thank you Abraham! But we would like to add that it was Abraham's strength, maturity and determination that had plenty to do with his win. The best part of all is that, having helped, everyone of us feels like a winner!
