Busy first weekend of Spring!

Hello everyone! If you are in the NYC area and interested in cycling or running with us please join our NYC Chapter page and post a comment at OrganicAthlete.org or drop us a line HERE. We always have a great time training and competing together! Take this weekend for example:

As the sun finally found its way to NYC, we have sprung into racing with just about everything we had this weekend!

Saturday we started in the fine tradition of racing at day break in Central Park at 6:45 AM! The turnout was good with James, Alex V, Denis, Jack, Jeff and Lance while speeds were fast. With only 4 laps or 24 miles all stayed together and Lance sprinted for 5th place!

But 2 hours after Central Park, there was another race at the infamous abandoned airport in Brooklyn, the Floyd Bennett Field. So with plenty of time, some of our hungry ones rode their bikes the 20 miles to get there, raced for 25 miles more and rode the 20 back again. Jeff clocked over 90 miles this way! This race was also a great success with Cynthia placing 4th after her field stayed away from a Cat.123 Women's field handicapped by 2 minutes. Lance drove a 3 man break for most of his race and finished 2nd. Denis also having raced in Central Park earlier finished 5th in his field!

That same day, Alex R. travelled to Philadelphia with his Brompton folding bike for the Brompton U.S. Championship Race. Competition was stacked high with some strong guys and gals, all dressed in business suit jackets and ties! This high style affair also ended on a high note with Alex finishing 4th!

Sunday we were lucky to have another race at a local venue in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. With 10 laps or 34 miles, breaking away would be hard to do but Lance's breakaway machine was now well tuned and he stayed away with 3 others for 6 laps till the end when he sprinted for the win! Phil, Jack and Jeff were also very pleased that their efforts to control the chasing pack paid off netting about a 40 second gap.

Same Sunday morning Denis left his bike behind to run in the NYC Half Marathon. And why not when even though he raced twice just a day earlier, he still managed to run a very impressive time of 1:32 placing 807th from 11,493 who finished and 167th from 2,812 in his age category!

Congratulations to all, knowing that we'll only get stronger is very inspiring!
